Gasification with Fischer-Tropsch (FT) synthesis was the first technology pathway that received ASTM certification for the production of biojet fuel in 2009. As yet, there is still no commercial production of biojet fuels using this technology and here we analyze the technology and the reason why progress has been delayed. FT technology is not new and was developed in Germany during WWII to produce fuel from coal.
